Wear without Worry - Classy Rags for Big Fun Bags
WWB (Women With Boobs) addresses an overlooked area of women’s fashion: stylish tops and shirts that accommodate D and DD bra sizes, without being large everywhere else.
“Being big in the bust doesn’t necessarily mean a woman is large all over – and there are plenty of women who fall into this group,” says Neroli Hajinakitas the designer and entrepeneur behind WWB. “We have people who are DD in the bust, yet take a size 8. As you can imagine, it’s not easy to find tops or shirts that fit at the bust without looking like a sack elsewhere.”
“Breastfeeding women are another overlooked market. Maternity wear is designed to accommodate mum plus baby, not the breastfeeding woman whose body is of course quite different.” says Neroli.
WWB has stylish and beautifully made shirts and tops in sizes from 8 to 20, in fittings for D and DD bustlines. In keeping with their designer’s experience with custom-made clothing, WWB customers have a choice of sleeve and collars/necklines styles for each design which comes in several colour choices. The styles are both classic and contemporary and appeal most to women in their mid 20s to 55+.
Some of the shirty problems faced by big-busted girls:
- Shirts gaping between the buttons or the “busting out” look.
Solution: In addition to proper fit, being generous with the buttons by having more, spaced closer together than standard shirts.
- The tent look, where the wearer is left with excess fabric at the sides and especially the front. it’s often caused by inadequate or non-existent darting.
Solution: Correctly sized and carefully placed bust darts.
- Sagging shoulder line from having to go up one or more size for bust fit.
Solution: Wearing the right size shirt with the appropriate allowance for the fit.
- Limited style choices, and many off-the rack plus sizes are inappropriately styles.
Solution: Going to a dressmaker or ordering WWB shirts with their many sleeve, collar, neckline and colour options.
With over 20 years experience in designing award-winning made-to-measure clothing, Neroli has had plenty of opportunity to hear the frustrations of well-endowed women first-hand.
More about WWB.
All WWB garments are made in Australia by trained makers. Exploitation and sweatshops are not part of WWB’s ethic or practice. “When we say no sweat,” says Neroli, “we mean more than natural fibres. No sweat for you, no sweat for the makers and sweat-free nights for us!”
How it started
In 1988, Fashion Technology graduate Neroli Hajinakitas decided to specialise in hand tailored garments and began Nezz Exclusive. Every garment was to be individually designed to complement each customer’s shape and proportions. Word spread, and steadily the customer base expanded as Nezz continued to make beautifully fitting garments.
Customers with larger bustlines had constant difficulty finding stylish and well-fitting tops. Market research revealed a gap in the market for shirts and blouses with D and larger bust fittings in sizes other than 16 plus. Nezz was ideally placed to address this gap and in 2002 Neroli and her team began work on the WWB range.
“WWB customers can enjoy shirts and blouses with the same quality and attention to detail as any Nezz garment, but at a ready-to-wear price, says Neroli.
To date, the response has been phenomenal and WWB will be expanding its vibrant range.
